The central challenge in designing this project lies in adopting a novel spatial strategy that emphasizes the interplay between open and enclosed spaces within the negative space wall. Our goal is to create a weekend house on an enclosed and secluded site, providing an expansive private area for a large Iranian family to unwind and find comfort.
To achieve this, we began by introducing a deliberate gap in the bulky mass plastic. This gap serves as a gradual and ambiguous boundary between private and public spaces, effectively acting as liminal space. Our spatial organization strategy extends beyond the physical structure itself and encompasses the partitioning of negative space. As a result, multiple windows and expansions have emerged within these gaps.
We paid meticulous attention to the quality of these negative spaces, incorporating stone textures to enhance their visual appeal. By placing the observer within these spaces and allowing greenery to be a part of interior structure, we fostered a stronger connection between the building and its surroundings. Additionally, the secondary courtyard seamlessly connects to the main courtyard, intensifying the relationship with open space.
One of our key design objectives was to differentiate this section from the simple exterior facade of the building. The spatial diversity achieved through the separation of private and public areas, along with the connecting area between them, disrupts the conventional layout pattern found in residential houses. Ultimately, this approach maximizes the integration of internal and external spaces within the central partition.
